Most favours end up in a drawer. A hand-finished stole doesn't — it travels home, comes out again at the next winter function, and keeps your family's name attached to it long after the mandap is packed away. That is the whole argument for cloth over trinkets: it survives the drive home.
We have been weaving and finishing shawls in Gurgaon since 1984, mostly for export buyers. Favour orders run through the same line: sampled first, checked at three stages, packed exactly the way you specify. The pages below are the questions couples and planners ask us most — how many to order, which fabric for which ceremony, and when to start.
An Indian wedding is five or six events, not one. Each has a different guest list, a different time of day, and a different favour that makes sense.
A small, close guest list means you can spend a little more per head. A silk stole in the family's shagun red or gold, folded into a slim box with a printed name tag, reads as a personal gift rather than a giveaway.
Daytime, outdoors, everyone in cotton. Give a light viscose or modal stole in the function's colour palette — guests wrap it on straight away and your photographs pick up the colour across the whole lawn.
Three coordinating silk scarves in one box, handed out at the table. Half get worn on the floor that night. Works particularly well when the sangeet has a dress code you want guests to actually meet.
For December and January dates in North India, hand the shawl over as guests arrive rather than as they leave. It solves the cold, it gets worn in every photograph, and nobody forgets it under a chair.
Split the order. A Kani-weave or Jamawar stole in a rigid box for the twenty-odd people who matter most, a lighter stole for the wider list. Same order, same delivery, two tiers — nobody at the wedding does the maths.
Guests flying home have a weight limit. A lightweight stole in a flat sleeve rather than a rigid box slides into hand luggage, and the whole consignment ships to Goa, Udaipur or overseas at a fraction of the freight.

Guest lists move up, never down. Staff, drivers, photographers and the odd late cousin all need one. Build in 8–10% spare and keep the leftovers as thank-yous.
Burgundy on a phone is not burgundy on wool. Ask for a physical swatch — it costs a courier and saves a 400-piece batch you don't recognise.
Custom labels and boxes need sampling before production even starts. Anything with woven branding wants six to seven weeks; a month only works for stock stoles with printed tags.
The exit table is where favours get abandoned. Place them on dinner tables or hand them over at arrival — a shawl given at the entrance on a December night is worn all evening.
Favour and return-gift orders start from 50 pieces per design. Mixed assortments across colours and fabrics are welcome as long as the total order meets the minimum.
One favour per family or couple usually works out to roughly 60% of the headcount; one per guest means the full headcount. Either way, add 8–10% spare for late confirmations, staff, vendors and a couple of keepsakes for yourselves. The planner above does the arithmetic.
