Selling Indian shawls in London: what buyers should know

Buyers in London order around their own seasons, gifting dates and import rules. These points shape what to order and when.

When demand peaks

Wool and pashmina sell best in the cooler months. Festive, gifting and wedding seasons drive gift and embroidered pieces. Plan orders at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead of your shelf date.

What suits the climate

Fine wool and pashmina suit cooler weather, while light stoles and scarves sell year-round. Browse summer shawls and scarves and winter shawls and scarves.

Duty, taxes and routes

Import duty and taxes depend on the rules of the country you import into. Shawls, scarves and mufflers fall under HS heading 6214, so confirm the rate for your HS code with your broker. Orders ship from India to London by air or sea.

Ready for UK shelves

UK labelling and private label shawls

Textiles sold in the UK must carry a label showing fibre composition using the approved fibre names, for example "70% wool, 30% silk". Care symbols and country of origin are not always legally required, but UK retailers and customers expect them, so we add them as standard.

If you sell under your own brand, we produce private label shawls, stoles and scarves with your woven labels, swing tags, barcodes and packaging. Fabric, weave, colours, size and finish are confirmed on an approved sample before bulk production starts.

See our private label range, white label shawls and care label requirements for textile export.

UK buyer FAQs

Questions from shawl buyers in London and the UK

Who are the best shawl manufacturers for UK buyers?

Most shawls sold in UK boutiques and gift shops are made in India and bought through UK wholesalers. Buying direct from an Indian manufacturer such as Savita Shawls removes the wholesaler's margin and gives you control over fabric, colour and labelling. Check that any supplier has a valid IEC and GST number before you order.

Do you have a warehouse or office in the UK?

No. We manufacture in Gurgaon, India and export to the UK. Our address is Savita Fashions LLP, 1st Floor, Plot No 42, Sector 18, Gurgaon 122015, Haryana, India.

Is there import duty on Indian shawls in the UK?

Since 15 July 2026, eligible Indian textiles, including shawls and scarves under HS heading 6214, enter the UK at 0% duty under the India-UK CETA, provided the shipment has valid proof of origin. UK import VAT of 20% still applies.

What proof of origin do I need to claim 0% duty?

We provide an origin declaration or a certificate of origin with the shipment. Your customs broker quotes it on the UK import declaration to claim the preferential rate. Keep a copy, as HMRC can ask for it later.

Do I need an EORI number to import shawls into the UK?

Yes. The UK importer of record needs a GB EORI number. Your customs broker or courier uses it to clear the goods.

What is the minimum order for UK buyers?

Most ready styles start at 25 pieces. Kani weaves, custom designs and private label orders start at 100 pieces. The MOQ is shown on each product page.

How long does shipping from India to the UK take?

Samples are dispatched in 5 to 7 days by DHL or FedEx. Sea freight takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks port to port into Felixstowe, London Gateway or Southampton. Air freight into Heathrow is much faster for urgent stock. Production takes 4 to 6 weeks on average.

When should I order for the wedding season, Diwali or Christmas?

Order by February for spring weddings, 10 to 12 weeks before Diwali, and early enough to have Christmas stock in the UK by late October. Each window allows for sampling, production and freight.

What labels must shawls carry to be sold in the UK?

UK law requires a label showing fibre composition using approved fibre names. Care symbols and country of origin are expected by most UK retailers, so we add them as standard.

Can you supply Asian wedding shawls for UK boutiques?

Yes. We supply embroidered, embellished and Jamawar wedding shawls and stoles for bridal and occasion-wear boutiques, from 25 pieces on ready styles.

Can you make private label shawls for my UK brand?

Yes. We add your woven labels, swing tags, barcodes and packaging, with fibre and care labels made to UK requirements. Private label orders start at 100 pieces per design.

Which payment terms do you accept from UK buyers?

New buyers pay 50% in advance and 50% before shipment. Letters of credit or extended terms are available for established buyers.
