Ready for Japanese shelves

Japanese quality labelling and private label stoles

Under Japan's Household Goods Quality Labeling Act, scarves, shawls and mufflers must carry a permanent label showing fibre composition by percentage and care instructions using the JIS L 0001 care symbols. Labels are written in Japanese and name the company responsible in Japan. "Pashmina" is not an approved fibre name, so the label must state the actual fibre, such as cashmere, wool or silk.

Japanese buyers expect very low defect rates. We check every piece for weave faults, colour consistency, measurements and loose threads before packing, and we can work with your inspection agency or third-party inspection before shipment.

If you sell under your own brand, we produce private label stoles and shawls with your Japanese labels, swing tags and packaging. See our private label range and care label requirements for textile export.

Japan buyer FAQs

Questions from shawl buyers in Tokyo and Japan

Who are the best shawl manufacturers for Japanese buyers?

Many stoles and scarves sold in Japan are made in India and China and bought through Japanese trading houses. Buying direct from an Indian manufacturer such as Savita Shawls removes that margin and gives you control over fibre, colour, labelling and quality checks. Check that any supplier has a valid IEC and GST number before you order.

Do you have an office in Japan?

No. We manufacture in Gurgaon, India and export to Japan. Our address is Savita Fashions LLP, 1st Floor, Plot No 42, Sector 18, Gurgaon 122015, Haryana, India.

Is there import duty on Indian shawls in Japan?

Indian textiles and apparel can enter Japan duty-free under the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, provided the shipment has a preferential certificate of origin. Japan's 10% consumption tax still applies on import.

Who issues the certificate of origin for Japan?

For textiles, apparel and made-ups, the preferential certificate of origin under the India-Japan agreement is issued by India's Textiles Committee. Each certificate is valid for 12 months. We arrange it for every shipment.

What labels must stoles carry in Japan?

Under the Household Goods Quality Labeling Act, scarves, shawls and mufflers need a permanent label with fibre composition by percentage and JIS L 0001 care symbols, in Japanese, naming the responsible company in Japan.

Can I sell stoles labelled as pashmina in Japan?

Pashmina can be used in product names and descriptions, but the quality label must show the approved fibre name, such as cashmere, wool or silk, with its percentage.

What is the minimum order for Japanese buyers?

Most ready styles start at 25 pieces. Kani weaves, custom designs and private label orders start at 100 pieces. Small mixed orders are common for Japanese select shops.

How do you meet Japanese quality standards?

We inspect every piece for weave faults, colour consistency, measurements and finishing before packing. We can also work with your own inspection agency or a third-party inspection before shipment.

How long does shipping from India to Japan take?

Samples are dispatched in 5 to 7 days by DHL or FedEx. Sea freight to Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka or Kobe takes roughly 3 to 4 weeks, and air freight to Narita, Haneda or Kansai takes a few days. Production takes 4 to 6 weeks on average.

When should I order for winter and Oseibo?

Aim to have winter stock in Japan by September and Oseibo stock by late October. That means confirming winter orders by June.

Can you make private label stoles for my Japanese brand?

Yes. We produce private label stoles and shawls with your Japanese quality labels, brand labels, swing tags and packaging. Private label orders start at 100 pieces per design.

Which payment terms do you accept from Japanese buyers?

New buyers pay 50% in advance and 50% before shipment. Letters of credit or extended terms are available for established buyers.
